UNS Lecturer Develops Ozonization Technology with Vegetable Farmers in Magelang

Sumberejo Village, Ngablak District, Magelang Regency is one of the centers of vegetable production in Central Java Province. These vegetable commodities support most of the people's economy. Seeing this phenomenon, the Research Group of the Food Technology Science Study Program (ITP) of the Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University was challenged to help increase both the quantity and quality of the vegetables produced by the farmers.

Food Engineering Research Group, which consists of Dr. Ir. Sigit Prabawa, M.Sc., Dr. Ir. Rofandi Hartanto, M.P., Ir. Bambang Sigit Amanto, M.Sc., Ir. Kawiji, M.P., and Bara Yudhistira, S.TP., M.Sc.

Bara Yudhistira, STP, M.Sc as one of the team members stated that the guidance had been carried out for these farmers. "The team carried out farmer guidance on June 18, 2021 related to optimizing the ozonization process as an effort to preserve vegetables as well as counseling related to packaging in accordance with food safety standards".

"This activity is carried out by following the health protocol where all participants use masks, face shields and use hand sanitizer before and keep their distance."

"This guidance is carried out considering that the "Organic Pearl" Farmer Group in Kenteng Hamlet, Sumberejo Village, Ngablak District, Magelang Regency already has an ozonation machine assisted by BPPT Central Java, so it is necessary to optimize the use so that the vegetables produced can be maximally durable" .

He added that this counseling was a follow-up to the results of previous studies that had obtained the appropriate process parameters for both vegetable and animal commodities.

“Even though at this time the tool is only focused on vegetable commodities which incidentally are vegetables, the UNS research team uses animal ingredients as well. This is to anticipate if in the future the tool will be used for animal commodities.” "The counseling event is expected to be able to bridge between universities (Sebelas Maret University) and farmers in the field, so that knowledge transfer and technology transfer can run continuously which in turn increases the quantity and quality of agricultural products in Sumberejo Village, Ngablak District, Magelang Regency which can increase significantly. In the end, the welfare of farmers will increase”, said Bara Yudhistira, STP, M.Sc ending the conversation.
