The Agricultural Extension and Communication study program, Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sebelas Maret (UNS) Surakarta held an Online Webinar on Community Participation Development with the theme “How to Mobilize Community Participation in Development Programs” and “Market System Development Approaches in Increasing Farmer Income” through the Zoom application, Thursday (29 /04/2021).

The online webinar activity was opened with an opening remark by the Head of the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, Dr. Suminah, M.Si. and Deputy Dean III of the Faculty of Agriculture UNS Dr. Agung Wibowo S.P., M.Sc. and moderated by Putri Permatasari, S.P. M.Si. The online webinar presented two resource persons, namely Ir. Sugeng Riyanto, M.Sc. (Head of the Department of Community Empowerment, Village, Population, and Civil Registration of Central Java Province) and Elifas Omega Yusufadisyukur, S.P., M.Sc., M.Sc. (Business Consultant in AIP-PRISMA Program).

The online webinar on Community Participation Development organized by the Agricultural Extension and Communication Study Program, Sebelas Maret University was attended by 189 participants by joining through the zoom meeting application.

In front of the participants Ir. Sugeng Riyanto, M.Sc. convey the topic of Community Participation in Village Development by starting the delivery of the village and village authority. The explanation is continued with village development where in the village law there is a statement that one village has one planning and one village has one budget system. The purpose of village development is to improve the quality of human life, improve community welfare, and reduce poverty. This can be achieved through the fulfillment of basic needs, development of village infrastructure, development of local economic potential, utilization of natural resources and a sustainable environment, so that in the end it can become an independent, strong, advanced, and democratic village. Village development can run with the support of community empowerment with the aim of creating an empowered community and increasing community participation in village development. What is also important is conveyed by him about the village community as the subject of village development so that community involvement is needed in the implementation of village development.

The second resource person, Elifas Omega Yusufadisyukur, S.P., M.Sc., M.Sc. delivered the topic of Market System Development Approach in Increasing Farmer's Income. He started the explanation about PRISMA, which is a program under the Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Rural Economic Development (AIP-Rural) which supports the Government of Indonesia's development strategy to accelerate poverty alleviation through inclusive economic growth. He said that the way PRISMA works is to use the MSD approach system. The Market Systems Development (MSD) approach works to deliver sustainable benefits to a wide range of market participants, including farmers, the poor, the business sector and governments. MSD encourages market systems to function more effectively, sustainably and benefit the poor by strengthening their capacities and increasing their opportunities for improved quality of life.

At the end of the online webinar session, Ir. Sugeng Riyanto, M.Sc. gave a closing statement that the village community as the subject of village development has an important role in the implementation of village development, and we as millennials are expected to be able to support village development. Meanwhile, Elifas Omega Yusufadisyukur, S.P., M.Sc., M.Sc. gave a closing statement that as students are expected to continue to explore their abilities and print works so that in the future it can be useful for many people.
