Animal feed producer company Charoen Pokphand Indonesia (CPI) donated a closed house broiler cage to the Faculty of Agriculture, Sebelas Maret University (FP UNS) Solo.
Secretary General of Charoen Pokphand Foundation Indonesia, Andi Magdalena Siadari, SH, MH, said that the cage grant for broilers with a capacity of 20,000 chickens was carried out to build synergy between the business world and universities. This, he said, was in line with the concept of Merdeka Learning Campus Merdeka (MBKM).
"Please all UNS academics use it as a field laboratory for innovation development," said Andi Magdalena Siadari when giving a speech at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a closed house broiler cage in Jatikuwung, Gondangrejo, Karanganyar, Thursday 3 June 2021.
CPI, continued Magdalena, has experience and knowledge of cultivation techniques, production facilities, business management, and chicken marketing. So that the existence of a closed house can be a place for internships and final project research as well as to build entrepreneurship.
Therefore, FP UNS requires technical assistance in cultivation and access to production facilities such as medicinal feed, and day old chick (chicken seeds). In addition, capital assistance, business management, and marketing of results.
In addition, the closed house which was built in Jatikuwung Village, Gondangrejo District, Karanganyar Regency, is also a part of corporate social responsibility or CSR. According to Magdalena, the closed house plays an important role as a medium for student learning for entrepreneurship.
The cage grant agreement was signed by Area Head Poultry Integration Central Java CPI Ir. Anton P. Setio Gunarto, and the Dean of FP UNS Prof. Dr. Ir. Samanhudi, SP., MSi, IPM, ASEAN Eng.
"The signing of the cooperation has actually been going on since 2019, but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the construction of the new cage will be realized in 2021," said Deputy Dean of Planning, Cooperation, Business, and Information of FP UNS, Dr. Great Wibowo.
Next Dr. Agung explained that the purpose of the grant based on this agreement was to complete teaching and learning facilities at academic partner universities. Facilities in the form of cages will be used as a means of research and development and practice of chicken farming.

The Chair of the Groundbreaking Event Committee who is also the Head of the Animal Husbandry Study Program at FP UNS, Sutrisno Hadi, Ph.D, explained that the Chancellor of UNS, Prof. Dr. Jamal Wiwoho, SH., M.Hum, came to give a speech and laid the first stone for the construction of the closed house.

Prof. Dr. Samanhudi explained that the closed house cage will minimize the failure of the livestock business. This is because with a closed house it is easier to control the growth of chickens and regulate the lighting of the cage more evenly.
In addition, the durability of the cage is durable so that it can increase the productivity of chickens. "Thus, the existence of this cage will really serve as a center for student learning within the Faculty of Agriculture, UNS and it is hoped that after graduation students can become entrepreneurs in the livestock sector."
