Abstrack :
The cytogenetic information of ginger (Z. officinale var. officinale) will be useful for  breeding program of this crops. The chromosomes analysis of  ginger has been done by squash-aceto orcein method.  It was found that the chromosomes number of ginger was 2n = 24 (22 + 2B), chromosomes length were  2.41 ± 0.33 µm to 6.29 ± 0.36 µm. The intrachromosomal asymetry index was 0.249 ± 0.009 and the interchromosomal asymetry index was 0.295 ± 0.044. It was suggested that the karyotipe formula of ginger was 2n = 24 = (22 + 2B) = 8 m + 3 sm + 1B m, wich is consists of 8 pairs of metacentric chromosomes, 3 pairs of metacentric chromosome, and 1 pair of metacentric B chromosomes.
